Dr. Ferenc Jánoska forest engineer, Associate Professor at the University of Sopron, Hungary

Born 1966, Esztergom, Hungary

Forest engineer, nature conservation engineer, holder of candidate’s degree in Agricultural Science (Forestry); Institute of Wildlife Management and Wildlife Biology, Faculty of Forestry, University of Sopron 

Areas of research and interest: game biology, game management, breeding of game animals in captivity, agricultural damage by game animals, legal expertise, etc.

 

Prof. Dr. Miklós Heltai – agricultural engineer, director of institute, professor, Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, MATE Institute for Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation, Gödöllő, Hungary

Born 1967, Budapest, Hungary

Agricultural engineer (1992), game management engineer (1998), Bachelor of Laws in Hunting (2015); doctoral (PhD) degree in 2003, habilitation in 2011, Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (DSc) in 2017; Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences, Director Professor at the Institute of Wildlife Management and Wildlife Conservation

Areas of research and interest: Hungarian predatory mammals, research into golden jackal population dynamics, development of management strategies, species protection plans, urbanization of wild species, etc.

 

Prof. Dr. Péter Sótonyi – veterinarian, university rector, Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, University of Veterinary Medicine, Budapest, Hungary

Born 1954, Mosonmagyaróvár, Hungary

Professor Sótonyi gained his Diploma in Veterinary Medicine in 1979. He has worked at the University of Veterinary Medicine since 1985. He is currently the Rector of the University of Veterinary Medicine, Head of the Department of Anatomy and Histology, Honorary Doctor at Semmelweis University and the University of Kaposvár, as well as the Vice-President of the Hungarian Equestrian Association. He is a member of the Hungarian Olympic Committee. He is an instructor – in Hungarian and German – in several subjects in the field of animal anatomy. Based on student evaluation, he has won the title of “best teacher” 44 times, and in 1999 he was named “Teacher of the Year in Hungary”. In 2005 he gave a lecture at the “University of All Knowledge” entitled “Analysis of Animal Movement”. His scientific work so far comprises 47 original scientific articles with an impact factor of 83.491 and 1,753 independent citations. He is the author or co-author of 10 books and a highly successful anatomical CD-ROM published in Hungarian, English, German, Japanese and Slovak. He has published 17 dissertations and given more than 100 lectures at national and international conferences. He regularly teaches and researches at the universities of Cologne, Vienna, Berlin, Timișoara and, since 2004, has been a visiting professor at Yale University in the United States. He has had an active educational, scientific and scientific policy relationship with Semmelweis University for more than a quarter of a century.

Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, external member of the Doctoral Council of Semmelweis University, President of the Scientific Students’ Associations, Vice-President of the World Organization of Hungarian Veterinarians, President of the Hungarian Veterinary Historical Society, Member of the Board of the European Association of Veterinary Anatomists, Nomina Anatomica Veterinaria, XXVII President of the European Association of Veterinary Anatomists Congress, Vice-President of the World Association of Veterinary Anatomists.

Areas of research and interest: archaeological zoology, veterinary X-ray anatomy, anatomy of domestic birds, history of Hungarian veterinary training, etc.

 

István Merczel forest engineer, Head of Forest Management Department - SEFAG Zrt. Kaposvár, Hungary

Born 1961, Veszprém, Hungary

Graduated as a forest engineer in 1986 from the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Sopron, and in 2001 he obtained a degree as a “financial and business expert” from the Zalaegerszeg College of Accounting. He is currently the Head of the Forest Management Department at the renowned and long-established SEFAG Forestry and Timber Company, which manages the state forests and hunting areas of Somogy County, Hungary. He has worked at SEFAG Zrt. for 35 years. In recent decades he has held a number of important positions there, including the following: Head of the Forest Utilization Sector; Head of Quality Control ; Forest Utilization Department Manager; Project Manager; Head of the Forestry Policy and Control Department; Head of the Technical Department; and Chief Engineer for Innovation and Technology. He is Coordinator of the Consortium for Somogy County’s Events at the “One With Nature” World of Hunting and Nature Exhibition 2021.

Honours: Ministerial Recognition (1986, 1989); “For Services to the City of Kaposvár” (1998); “Gold Ring for Somogy Forests” (2013).

Community and civic activities: National Chamber of Hungarian Hunters (OMVK) Hunting Traditions and Cultural Committee – member; Somogy County Foresters and Nature Conservation Association – president; National Forestry Association (OEE), Kaposvár Group – secretary; Somogy County Folk Dance Association – president.

Research and interests: forest and game management, nature and environmental protection, folklore studies.

 

Dr. Tamás Szekrényes forest engineer, Head of Department of Game and Fish Management of VERGA Zrt., Hungary

Born 1974, Zirc, Hungary

MSc forest engineer (1998), currently works as the Head of Department of Game and Fish Management of VERGA Veszprém State Forestry Zrt., Hungary. Doctoral degree (PhD) 2012 of Forestry and Game Management Sciences. Member of the Game Management Subcommitte of the Forestry Committee of the VEAB, Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
Member of the Wildlife Protection and Management Committee of OMVK (Hunting Chamber of Hungarian Hunters).
Member of the board of the Veszprém County Territorial Organization of OMVK (Hunting Chamber of Hungarian Hunters).
